With a career spanning more than 50 years and 14 Grammy Awards, pianist Herbie Hancock has influenced electronic and acoustic jazz, as well as R&B, with his genre-defying musical voice. In his autobiography, jazz great Miles Davis described Hancock as “the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven’t heard anybody yet who has come after him.”
Grammy Award-winning electronic jazz quartet Robert Glasper Experiment and BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn Festival alumi, known for their Black Radio and Black Radio 2 albums, will elevate the stage with their “mellow, harmonically complex compositions.”
Over the last 15 years, Jamie Lidell has cemented his reputation as an artist refusing easy categorization. He spans the spectrum of sounds from strident electro and pop to smooth, earthy psychedelic soul all imbued with Lidell’s distinctive songwriting touch and impossibly gorgeous vocals.
