Yemayá (also spelled Yemoja, Iemoja, Yemonja or Yemaya) is one of the most powerful Orishas in African Mythology. Yemaya is associated with the ocean, salt water, rain, healing fertility, the Moon, the subconscious, creativity and the divine feminine. Yemayá governs the household and she grants protection, safety, love and healing to all those who ask her aid.
Oshún is depicted as Yemaya’s sister. She allows Oshún to take residence in her rivers.
